REALTOR® DUES DEDUCTIBILITY
2017 Dues Deductibility
The portion of dues paid that is spent to lobby the State and Federal governments is not deductible for income tax purposes and the IRS requires that all dues statements disclose this information.
2017 dues for a full year: $389 without RPAC contribution.
In addition, contributions (including member dues) to NAR are not tax deductible as charitable contributions. However, they may be tax deductible under other provisions of the Internal Revenue Code.
Avoid Late Fees by paying by October 1. Payment plans are available. To obtain a copy of your dues bill or payment receipts, log into the member portal by clicking here.
Contributions to RPAC are voluntary and are used for political purposes and are nondeductible for income tax purposes. You may contribute more or less than the suggested amount. You may refuse to contribute without reprisal. The National Association of REALTORS® or any of its state associations or local boards will not favor or disfavor any member because of the amount contributed. 70% of each contribution is used by your state PAC to support state and local political candidates. Until your state PAC reaches its RPAC goal, 30% is sent to National RPAC to support federal candidates and is charged against your limits under 2 U.S.C.441a. After the state PAC reaches its RPAC goal, it may elect to retain your entire contribution for use in supporting state and local candidates. 2017 ESTIMATED LOBBYING EXPENSE DEDUCTION ALLOWANCE: 2017 dues for a full year: $389 without RPAC contribution. The portion of dues paid that is spent to lobby the State and Federal governments is not deductible for income tax purposes and the IRS requires that all dues statements disclose this information. GAR has estimated that $13.82 (14.10%) is the nondeductible portion of 2017 GAR dues. For 2017, with dues at $120 per member, NAR computes $50 (42%) to be nondeductible for the member’s income tax purposes due to NAR lobbying efforts. Please note that the entire $35 Public Awareness Campaign special assessment qualifies as fully deductible.
Each year, your Renewal Statement contains a separate line item for the NAR Consumer Advertising Campaign. The $35 fee is included under National in the New Member Fee Schedule shown above. The Consumer Advertising Campaign fee is not optional.
Each member is asked to invest in the future of their business by making a voluntary RPAC contribution. Your Renewal Statement contains a separate line item for an RPAC contribution, which is optional.
